When Monte Corona in the north of Lanzarote erupted several millions of years ago besides the explosions launched through its roof a searing stream of molten lava burst out from its interior and carved a tunnel for over seven kilometres underground until it reached the nearby Atlantic Ocean.

It is the longest volcanic tunnel in the world.

The interior of the grotto has been converted into a restaurant and night club. The outside area contains a pool and further along an underground auditorium where concerts take place featuring local and international artist. The inside has been turned by César Manrique into one of the most beautiful tourist attractions to be seen anywhere. A spiral staircase of wooden steps leads down into a large cool cavern with a lake wich contains a species of albino crab.
